WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Theresa Gasper for Congress in Ohio’s 10th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
“As a fourth-generation Daytonian, Theresa Gasper’s deep roots in her community are what drive her to serve the 10th District in Congress. She is a dedicated advocate for reinvesting in her local community by rehabilitating historic homes in her old neighborhood and has worked with local organizations that educate new homebuyers and homeowners. As a small businesses owner, Theresa’s work ethic and commitment to expanding economic opportunity make her a strong voice for working families.
“Theresa is running against Republican incumbent Mike Turner, who has done little to stand up for his constituents while in Washington. Theresa is running a grassroots campaign engaging new voters across the district that can serve as a model for how to make the entire state bluer as she takes this seat from the Republicans for the people of the 10th District. EMILY’s List is proud to stand with this champion for working families and we’re all in to help her flip this seat.”
As a young mother, Theresa Gasper took over a local telephone answering service and served as president for 14 years. She went on to found a business renovating and rehabilitating local homes, and is dedicated to revitalizing Dayton communities affected by the housing crisis. Theresa is a powerful advocate for Ohioans who has served on the boards of local organizations that provide educational programs for first-time homebuyers, coaching for homeowners modifying their loans, and home repair assistance for elderly homeowners. A fourth-generation resident of the Dayton area, Theresa lives in Beavercreek with her husband and is committed to fighting for the community where she has lived all her life.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
